Forest Fire Prevention

This summer, the risk of wildfires was a hot topic. Together with the Center for Development and Environment (CDE) at the University of Bern, the Office for Forests and Natural Hazards, and the Jungfrau Region, we developed a simple, direct awareness-raising initiative.

The forest is more than just a habitat. It offers recreation, and in the Alpine region, above all, protection. The key visual depicts the ideal state of the forest, but fire can quickly threaten this. Yet even a slight gust of wind or a single spark is enough to set dry wood or grass ablaze.

Screen displays on the trains and signs at key locations remind visitors, including many international guests, of simple rules of conduct.

While documenting the signs for the project, nature inspired me to create a small photo series. Hiking and simply being out in nature tickle all my senses: taking in textures and details with my eyes, smelling the scent of the conifers, listening intently when I hear rustling…
