The State Forestry Service of the Canton of Bern commissioned Studio Nuôi to design the layout and illustrations for the course book Handling Chainsaws. This teaching material covers the fundamentals of safely operating a chainsaw and supplements the SFB’s one- to two-day handling courses. The course provides practical knowledge for individuals working with chainsaws in forestry operations, construction, and horticulture.

In terms of design, the practical content was combined with the cantonal visual language. Developed in collaboration with Martina Friedli, the illustrations take up the style of the Office for Forest and Natural Hazards’ strategy papers and build on them: they are reduced and explanatory in order to depict behaviors that cannot always be shown in photographs.
